Become A Better Texas Hold Em Poker Player And You Will Win At Casino Poker   Author: Mario Lobotta

If you want to become a better texas hold em poker player, you need to know how to shift your playing style throughout your playing session. The best no limit players out there are able to switch among 3 distinct styles throughout their playing session and these are the ones that consistently win at casino poker.

They shift gears to confuse their opponents so that it's hard for their opponents to predict their betting style. As I review these styles, think about how you can incorporate them into your game.

The first style is similar to method that is preached in Doyle Brunson's SuperSystem. In this style, aggression is the key. If you're playing, you're raising. With this style, you're looking for pocket pairs, and connectors (suited or unsuited). You'll also be playing suited aces and faces cars. Plus, to add to your aggressive image, you will play any two cards at cutoff or button about 20-30% of the time. You're aiming for a pot sized raise every time.

The only time you will limp is when you are setting a trap. That is, you have AA or KK in early position so you limp to hopefully reraise a raiser in late position. Or, if you determined that there's a certain opponent that loves to pick on you when you limp. Well, with a premium hand, you'll let him pick on you and then get him after the flop comes up (unless the flop is very dangerous).

The next style is a more passive style. Like waiting in the bushes, you wait for your prey to come and then you pounce. In this style, you limp often with almost any hand except for the real garbage hands like K7o or T2o. Your goal is to draw strong hands that can potentially take away all the chips from the tight players that commit to their AA's and KK's such as straights and flushes.

This style just like the previous style requires a big bankroll for you will be looking at limping in even after preflop raises. Many times you won't connect and your pre-flop calls will be wasted, but when it comes in, you will be able to win it all back...and then some.

The last style is the happy medium of the previous two styles. This is the solid tight aggressive style that the top pros preach. It is the style where you respect the preflop raises and do not call the raises unless you have the goods.

With this style you still are willing to limp in with the pocket pairs but you don't look to limp with every hand...just those that can make sets. You'll also look to limp in late position with your Ace suited hands. This style is as close to the style that you read in most no limit hold em books.

Personally, I like to start with the first or second style and if neither is working, I wll jump to the third style ("textbook style") and if I feel that it's working or if people are finding my play too predictable, I'll shift to the first or second style.

The goal is to always be shifting styles to throw your opponents off guard. This is the best way to take control when playing no limit hold em. If you can do this consistently over time, you will become a better texas hold em poker player and you will win at casino poker.
